Ok, between Casey Stone, myself and Roger, I would have to say we've both met our match in the bitch and moan department - but that's one of the lovable parts about Roger. He's also an extremely warm humble guy almost to the point of self deprecation and once in while comes up with a dry line that has a lasting effect. His subtle humor is evident in the blooper reels we work on after a show is completed. And can we say "anal retentive"? I think I've met my match there too! The most amazing thing about Roger is his uncanny ability to eat the same exact thing for lunch at the exact same time everyday. He would make a content pet. I don't know how he does it, but it's damn healthy: Pasta and tuna, period. Roger's also known for his broad movie poster expertise and running a side operation out of my living room as I edit a film
Roger on Roger...
After turning down the opportunity to work with John on Public Access so I could make my fourth trip to Colombia, South America to hunt for movie posters and cheap souvenirs, I finally got with the program and hopped aboard The Usual Suspects Express. After reading the script, I knew I couldn't say no. Even the prospect of leaving lovely West LA each day for the one-hour trip to John's home in Where-the-Fuck, CA could not dissuade me.
Of course, it was worth it. John was great. The film was great. The pay was not so great. But so what. John's endless supply of gossipy stories and animated good humor made up for it in entertainment value. And John was kind enough to install an air conditioner in my tiny assistant's room so I could remain alive throughout that summer in the 110 degree valley heat. I returned the favor by occasionally preparing for him a batch of my famous pasta and tuna for lunch ..... Well, the cat seemed to like it. We collaborated on the Suspects blooper reel. John wrote and sung a rap song that we edited to. Many people, including myself, still rave about the reel!
Two years later funding finally came through for Apt Pupil. It was time again for fun and games at John's house. Thank God he moved a half-hour closer to civilization. We renewed our working relationship and added the wonderful Tirsa Hackshaw to the mix. John continued his string of amusing stories and continued to bitch and moan about the state of film scoring! And, yes, he admitted to missing the smell of tuna in the air. Special thanks to Avid and Tony Bozanich for putting an end to hours of me cleaning up thousands of feet of film from John's floor. I once again cut a blooper reel, and in my humble opinion, it's awesome!
