Pink Mist
(1992)

John's Thoughts

I will never live down this title and this piece of music. In my days of industrials and student film re-scoring, prior to Public Access, I wrote an innocent piece that wavered between the ambient and a simple circular melody. It told an abstract story. As my first real piece of music written for the sake of music, this became the only frame of reference of my musical ability for Bryan and Ken Kokin (produced Public Access). Therefore I was already pigeonholed as writing sickening saccharin, fluffy music. The title I came up with didn't help and my little poem on the back of the cassette case really did me in: "It exists in it's own nebula of tranquility ... to emerge suddenly into one's soul. Lifting them briefly into a journey of wonder, it returns to its ethereal dimension: Pink Mist." Now every time I even step into the realm of sweetness in my music, I just wait for the Pink Mist jokes to follow from Bryan. I thought it would be a great song for a station like 94.7 The Wave, here in LA.
