Anna
(1986)
John's Thoughts
A 25-minute mystery about Mr. Dubois' guilt and paranoia. Years ago Mr. Dubois killed his wife and blamed it on Anna, the maid. He has just heard on the radio that she has been paroled. It is a stormy night in his mansion and he is sure she is out to get him. A number of paranoid situations occur with sightings of a woman in a hat he is sure is Anna. In the end he swallows all his sleeping pills only to hear on the radio as he's slipping into his coma that Anna was re-admitted to a mental ward. Mr. Dubois doesn't quite make it to dial 911.
Anna was written in one night, cast the next day and filmed the next. The video transfer from film is pretty lousy. Here are two segments from the film truncated from 20 minutes to a few, so there are many scenes missing. Basically Mr. Dubois can't take the paranoia anymore and is convinced the parole, Anna Schmidt, it out to get him and expose his frame-job. Only in the end after taking his sleeping pills to do himself in, he hears a surprising radio bulletin.
