The Glitz Is Back
(1989)
John's Thoughts
I was working at the Sheraton Universal in the sales department, and the Director of Sales asked me if I would do a video tour of the hotel for the travel agents to have. It was all very informative but I didn't want it to be boring. It had to have a story. So I did this wild romp through the hotel with a flamboyant character played by Richard Reeves, an actual sales manager at the hotel. His character trait was to exaggerate the truth about himself and the hotel, but later correcting himself to tell the audience the actual information. Elfman's Pee Wee music and Silvestri's Roger Rabbit helped in the lunacy and wacky humor which raised the eyebrows of some Sheraton brass. The hotel loved it; unfortunately the big-wigs from corporate were not amused when the our proud Director of Sales showed it to them in a meeting. Eventually she was fired, but the tour lives on!
