This was a friend of mine's first big budget commercial to direct. Samsung editors created a more product-driven ad with some rather unmemorable music. For his director's cut, he wanted a worldly/larger scale approach revolving around the idea of "imagination." For this I knew we needed the human quality that only real musicians could offer, so I used a real string section, a flute player and female soloist (Tash) who was a chorus member of Bare, the musical that I produced. I wanted the music to first be slightly mysterious to suck in the viewer, then blossom into a joyous, yet magical sweeping tone. It's hard to tell a musical story in one minute. :)
